About Tour de Cure

Since Tour de Cure's beginning in 1991, thousands of individual riders and teams have participated to support the American Diabetes Association's mission:
To prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
Now you can make a difference in the lives of more than 23.6 million Americans with diabetes by joining thousands of cyclists around the nation who are riding in Tour de Cure.
Tour de Cure is a series of fundraising cycling events held in 43 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The Tour is a ride, not a race, with routes designed for everyone from the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist.

Lions, Rob Curtiss and Steve Monez rode bicycles 62 miles in the 2010 Tour de Cure on May 2nd. They represented the Pasadena Host Lions Club and raised $1375 to help fight diabetes.

This is the third year the Pasadena Lions Club has participated in this event. It is an event that anyone interested in helping the fight against diabetes can participate. Registration was free this year and each participant is committed to raise $150. Shorter rides were available starting with an 8 mile, 10, 20, and 32 miles. All the riders started at the Queen Mary and those signing up for the 10 mile route were treated to a harbor cruise back to the Queen Mary.

Rob, Jim Ward, Lion Tom's son and Steve Monez rode in the 2008 tour that started in a Long Beach park to Balboa and a Ferry ride. Then they returned along the Pacific Coast highway back to the park. This event at the Queen Mary started last year when Lion Jack Fierstadt and Steve represented the Pasadena Host Lions. Our team, with the help of the Pasadena Memorial Trust raised over $7500. This was the first time any cyclists had been allowed to ride over the Vincent Thomas and Gearld Desmond port bridges.

Come join our team next year and enjoy a wonderful event and help those in need. What better way to show the Lions motto “We Serve”!

Pasadena Lions participated in the Santa Teresita Health fair held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 in Duarte. Thanks to Calvin Smith, who brought some Leo members to help with registration, and several eye doctors, we were able to screen a lot of eyes for visual acuity, and some eye problems, like glaucoma.
